Federal employees can use ECOMP to view their FECA case and the status of disability claims or medical bills submitted in the case. OWCP also provides a medical bill portal for bill, reimbursement and authorization inquiries. First identify which item you are checking: the case, a compensation payment, a medical bill or a treatment authorization. Start with the question you need answered
“Claim status” can describe several different questions. A case inquiry, a wage-loss payment inquiry and a provider’s medical-bill inquiry are not interchangeable. Write down the specific question before opening a portal; this is a practical way to keep the inquiry focused.
Where can you check your FECA case?
DOL’s New Case Overview identifies the ECOMP Dashboard as a place to view the case and the current status of disability claims or medical bills submitted in it. DOL says access to FECA claim information requires identity verification after account registration. Use the official ECOMP site at https://www.ecomp.dol.gov/ and follow its current instructions.
What does CQS mean?
The Claimant Query System, or CQS, is part of ECOMP. DOL’s FECA FAQ describes access to case-file status, accepted conditions, the address of record, compensation payments and tracking. Seeing “CQS” in official guidance therefore does not mean you need an unrelated commercial claim-tracking service. Source: DOL FECA FAQ.
Where can you check medical bills and authorizations?
DOL’s injured-worker guidance directs injured workers, providers and employing agencies to the OWCP Web Bill Processing Portal for bill and reimbursement status. The official Claimant’s Corner also identifies eligibility, authorization, case-status and bill-status information in the WCMBP Claimant Portal. Use the official portal at https://owcpmed.dol.gov/ and select the route appropriate to your program and role.
ECOMP and the medical bill portal have overlapping information functions. This guide does not mean that medical-bill information is available only in one system. Follow the current official instructions for the particular inquiry.
A practical status-check record
- Note the date you checked and the official system used.
- Identify whether the item concerns the case, compensation, a medical bill or an authorization.
- Record the wording shown for the specific item, rather than summarizing every result as “approved.”
- Keep relevant notices and submission confirmations with your own records.
- If you need help, describe the specific question through the appropriate official contact route.
These are organizational suggestions, not OWCP filing requirements. A portal screen should be read in context with the relevant OWCP correspondence. Do not infer a decision about another request from the status of the item you are viewing.
What if the status is unclear?
DOL’s FECA FAQ identifies the office servicing the claim as generally the best contact for claim-status questions. For medical-bill or reimbursement inquiries, use the official medical bill portal’s help route. Do not post case identifiers, medical records or login details in public comments or send them through an unsecured contact form.
